The 2022 Global WiM Award shortlist has been announced and as we prepare for the Awards Ceremony which is set to take place very soon, we shine a spotlight on the amazing shortlisted women from across the continent.
For the fifth edition of the Africa Spotlight Series we speak to Mphothe Elizabeth Mokwena, Marketing Director of Homecare Africa for Unilever, South Africa.
WiM Africa: What does it mean to you to be shortlisted for the 2022 Global Women in Marketing Awards?
The nomination is special. It as it an acknowledgment from my industry colleagues that my passion for the inclusion of African women in all spheres of society and shattering stereotypes is backed by action. It also forces me to reflect on my power to drive societal change and encourages me to keep going. A lot of us are scared to “toot your own horn”, but such recognition forces one to healthily reflect on their achievements and own it…. Backed by receipts!
WiM Africa: What do you love most about what you do?
I believe that Marketing is about changing the world. Great brand building is about identify everyday-problems and solving them. Africa presents endless opportunity to improve people’s lives… And this is what keeps me excited. I get to practice science & magic every day.
WiM Africa: What one short piece of wisdom would you share with a young woman aspiring to do what you do?
Be passionate about service (doing work) and remain true to yourself even when it’s hard. Imagine the impossible, then get it done.
