The 2022 Global WiM Award shortlist has been announced and as we prepare for the Awards Ceremony which is set to take place very soon, we shine a spotlight on the amazing shortlisted women from across the continent.
For the fourth edition of the Africa Spotlight Series we speak to Parusha Partab, Group Strategy Director of Wunderman Thompson, South Africa.
WiM Africa: What does it mean to you to be shortlisted for the 2022 Global Women in Marketing Awards?
Usually, when the word “global” is used in awards it very rarely includes an African women on its shortlist. Given this, to be shortlisted is incredibly emotional for me. Reflecting on my own personal journey in my career has made years of hard work feel validated. I would be remiss to not mention the numerous women from across the African continent and my network who have reached out to me in shared pride. It feels like a shared win and makes it all the more meaningful.
WiM Africa: What do you love most about what you do?
In today’s world, marketers have an influence on society; on how we are represented, on what we aspire towards and on what we normalise. Historically, the people who have yielded that influence have not represented the larger part of society. The part of my job I love the most is when I can input a closer consumer insight or empathy from experience. When I can negotiate a shift to more inclusive marketing or perhaps push back against harmful stereotypes.
WiM Africa: What one short piece of wisdom would you share with a young woman aspiring to do what you do?
Your plans will change as life happens, but always dream without concession.
