WiM Africa: What does it mean to you to be shortlisted for the 2021 Global Women in Marketing Awards?

NM: Firstly, it is an incredible honour to be among such powerful leaders in the marketing profession. It means many things to me, it is a sign of achievement, acknowledgment of the impact of my leadership and a celebration of the contribution I have made.

WiM Africa: What do you feel are the biggest challenges faced in marketing financial services across Southern Africa / Africa?

NM: Our customers and audiences are exhausted and have suffered a lot of loss due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

It is challenging to talk about saving or protection of risk as they are grappling with everyday needs. How do we get them to think long term?

Cyber scams are on the rise in a world that overnight had accelerated digital adoption across client segments. There is a need for constant education that can be applied with ease.

Media consumption patterns have changed and content volume has grown significantly. This shift has brought about change in our way of thinking about the creative we put out and what channels we use.

WiM Africa: It is great to see how passionate you are about the role of leaders in creating positive change in the world. What advice would you give to women leaders who wish to have more impact?

NM: One needs to be clear about who they are and what moves them. I have found that staying true to my values and purpose has enabled me to give into my leadership role with authenticity and passion.
